ভাই ভাই এক ঠাঁই

কৃষ্ণ-খ্রিস্ট ধবল হয় না; তাহার জন্য স্বতন্ত্র গোরস্তান। ইংরেজ শাসকের স্বৈরতন্ত্র মুসলমান শাসকের এখতেয়ারি অপেক্ষা সর্বাংশে অধিক, চর্মদাহে মর্মদাহে তাহা বার বার অনুভব করিয়াছি ও করিতেছি। কিন্তু তাহাদের সর্বপ্রকার সাহায্য সত্ত্বেও খ্রিস্টধর্মের ন্যায় উদার ধর্ম, এদেশে সসম্মানে বরিত ও নন্দিত হইল না। ধর্মপিপাসু মন বার বার শুধায়, ক্রটি কোনখানে? হয়তো যাহারা বাহকরূপে আসিয়াছিলেন, তাঁহারা ধর্মের সত্য সেবক ছিলেন না।

তাই বলি এদেশের মুসলমান ধার্মিক। ব্যাপক অর্থে ধার্মিক। তিনি আরব-তুর্ক-মোগল বিজেতাদের জন্য স্বতন্ত্র ধর্মাগার, ভোজনাগার, অনন্ত-শয্যাগার নির্মাণ করেন নাই। তিনি স্বধর্ম পালন করিয়া হিন্দুর প্রতিবাসী হইয়াছেন। বিদেশি-শকট-যুগ যখন হিন্দু-মুসলিমের যুগ্ম-স্কন্ধকে চরম মর্দনে প্রপীড়িত করিল, তখন বর্ণ-ধর্ম ভুলিয়া দুই নিরীহ বলীর্বদ যুগ্ম-পদাঘাতে শকটারোহীকে সচেতন করিয়া দিল।

উপরোদ্ধৃত সম্পাদকীয় স্তম্ভের লেখক ইসলামের মূলনীতি হৃদয় দিয়া অনুভব করিয়াছেন, সজোর লেখনী সঞ্চালনে প্রকাশ করিয়াছেন।

We do not blame the action of the students, for that matter, the action of the other Muslims who took part in the demonstrations;

but it is the students in particular whom we are addressing. We commend their action and admire it, Furthermore, we thoroughly under stand the noble motives which have actuated them.

এ সত্য মুসলমানদের কথা! এ সত্য মানুষের কথা! ধর্মের কথা ন্যায়ের কথা! এই ভাই কোন ভিন্ন ঠাই যাইবে?

কিন্তু,

The Muslim students know fully well that their life and future are in jeopardy in a country where though a hundred million, the Muslim are in a minority. They realise the designs against them as Muslims.

মুসলমানদের ভীত হইবার কারণ আছে কি না সে প্রশ্ন আমরা কেন জিজ্ঞাসা করিব? কারণ লেখক নিজেই ভীত হন নাই– ভীত হইয়া স্বধর্মীয়দিগকে গণঅভিযান হইতে পশ্চাৎপদ হইতে বলেন নাই; নিজেই বলিতেছেন :

Still they have not hesitated to plunge into the fury, why? It is the Muslim way. Their hearts told them the I. N. A. trial was unjust. The lathi charges were brutal, the firing absolutely unjustified. It was their bound en duty to sympathise. Their hearts, brimful with the sublime teachings of Islam made them translate their sympathy into action. Some of them fell, side by side, with those who, perhaps not in person, represented the terrible menace to Islam and Muslim in India.

It was the Muslim way, most nobly expressed.
